Visit to Support Groups in Ogbia LGA

The main objective of the RHF team’s visit was to provide health promotion messages that would equip People Living with HIV (PLHIV) with the knowledge needed to maintain a healthy and positive lifestyle. By enhancing their understanding of self-care, personal hygiene, and treatment adherence, the team aimed to empower PLHIV with the tools to manage their health more effectively.

The RHF team visited three support groups in different communities within Ogbia LGA, each of which plays a vital role in providing emotional and health support to individuals living with HIV. These support groups included:

  • Better Life Care Foundation

  • Ebipre Foundation

  • God with Us Support Group

During the visits, the HIV Focal Person from FMC Otuoke led the discussion, delivering health promotion messages that focused on several key topics. These messages emphasized the importance of personal hygiene and treatment adherence, which are crucial for PLHIV to live healthy and fulfilling lives. The discussion also touched on sensitive topics such as self-esteem, helping participants understand how to manage the emotional and psychological challenges associated with living with HIV.

In addition to providing health education, the RHF HBC CVs also referred new clients to these support groups. This referral system helped ensure that more individuals were connected with the necessary resources and emotional support available through the groups. The collaboration between RHF and the support groups fostered an environment where PLHIV could access both health information and community support, which are essential for their overall well-being.

The initiative aimed to not only provide knowledge but also foster a sense of belonging, reducing the stigma surrounding HIV and encouraging individuals to actively participate in their own health management. By the end of the visit, it was clear that the support groups were making a significant impact on the lives of PLHIV, offering them a platform for continued education, empowerment, and support.
