Training for OVC Community Volunteers on Child Registration & Photo Data Capture

A total of 12 individuals, including 10 OVC volunteers and 2 members from God’s Deliverance Support Group in Ogbia, were trained on Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) programming from May 16–20, 2016. The training aimed to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and strategies for effective OVC programming, helping them better support vulnerable children in their communities.

The key objectives of the training included:

  • Equipping participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively implement OVC programming.

  • Developing an action plan and schedule for the enrolment and monitoring of OVCs, ensuring that each child receives proper care and support.

The training sessions were attended by key stakeholders, including representatives from the Bayelsa State for the Control of AIDS, the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, and Youth Leaders from Ogbia LGA. Additionally, members of God’s Deliverance Support Group participated in the training, demonstrating the strong community involvement in the initiative.

The training was coordinated by the Royal Healthcare Foundation (RHF) and facilitated by skilled resource persons from the Association of Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Nigeria (AONN). These experts shared their knowledge and experiences, providing participants with valuable insights into the challenges and solutions related to OVC care.

Over the course of the five-day training, participants engaged in hands-on sessions that included practical exercises on how to use OVC registration tools, as well as a camera to capture children’s pictures during the enrollment process. This allowed the volunteers to gain experience in properly documenting each child’s information and ensuring accurate records for follow-up and monitoring.

By the end of the training, the participants were well-equipped to carry out the responsibilities of Community Volunteers, playing a key role in the ongoing care and support for vulnerable children in the Ogbia LGA. The comprehensive training ensured that these volunteers could contribute meaningfully to the success of the OVC program, improving the lives of children in need.
