Start-up Workshop on HPDP Project for Project Staff

The start-up workshop for implementing HAF-2 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) was held from April 12–16, 2016, at Claridion Hotel, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. This multi-day event brought together implementing partners from across Bayelsa State to prepare them for the effective rollout of the World Bank–supported HIV/AIDS Programme Development Project II (HPDP II).

For the Royal Healthcare Foundation (RHF), three staff members attended the workshop, representing key roles in project management, monitoring and evaluation, and field implementation. The training aimed to familiarise participants with the various thematic areas under the HPDP II framework, ensuring they had a shared understanding of the project’s goals, objectives, and donor expectations.

Facilitators took participants through the prevention, Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC), and Home-Based Care (HBC) components of the project, with a strong emphasis on strategies for effective community engagement, service delivery, and reporting. Sessions covered technical guidelines, data collection tools, implementation timelines, and quality assurance measures. Practical group exercises and interactive discussions encouraged cross-learning among participants from different CSOs, fostering collaboration and alignment across implementing organisations.

By the end of the workshop, staff from all participating CSOs were better equipped with the knowledge, skills, and tools required to deliver high-quality interventions in their respective Local Government Areas. For RHF, the specific output was that its three trained staff members left the workshop fully prepared to implement the OVC and HBC components of the HPDP II project in Ogbia LGA, Bayelsa State.

This foundational training ensured that the RHF team could commence project activities with clarity, technical competence, and a consistent approach aligned with both donor and national HIV response priorities.
