The pre-enrolment exercise for Vulnerable Children (VC) was carried out across RHF’s seven targeted communities in Ogbia Local Government Area, with the goal of identifying and selecting the most vulnerable children for enrolment into the project. A minimum of 50 children were pre-enrolled and assessed in each community, ensuring that the process was inclusive and thorough.
To ensure efficiency and smooth coordination, the communities were divided into teams, each assigned specific days and dates for their activities. This structured approach allowed the project team to cover all communities systematically, avoid overlaps, and maximize volunteer efforts. The exercise was conducted over a five-day period, from May 23 to May 27, 2016, with active participation from the RHF project team and trained Community Volunteers (CVs).
Across the seven communities, the process involved administering pre-enrolment forms, assessing each child based on a set of vulnerability criteria, and engaging with caregivers to verify information. A total of 553 children were pre-enrolled during the exercise. These forms were later collated, and the scores were aggregated and analyzed to identify those who met the selection criteria for full enrolment. The analysis prioritized children with the highest vulnerability scores, ensuring that those most in need were considered first.
The activity was implemented jointly by a dedicated team of 10 Community Volunteers and 3 RHF staff members, who worked together to ensure accuracy, fairness, and transparency in the process. The outcome of the pre-enrolment exercise provided a solid foundation for the next phase of the project, which involved the formal enrolment and provision of support services to the selected children.
