Food support for Vulnerable Children (OVCs) was distributed across four communities in two Local Government Areas—Nkanu-East and Nsukka—in Enugu State. The distribution included essential food items such as rice, beans, crayfish, tin tomatoes, and other staples aimed at improving the nutrition and well-being of the children.
The event was met with enthusiasm and gratitude from community members, who expressed joy that the OVCs in their communities were remembered and supported. Caregivers and local leaders acknowledged the importance of the intervention in alleviating some of the daily challenges faced by these children.
In addition to the food distribution, quarterly Kids’ Club sessions were organized for the OVCs. These sessions included fun activities, the presentation of gifts, and health talks delivered by Health Teachers, covering topics relevant to the children’s well-being and personal development.
During the Kids’ Club activities, the RHF team provided the children with age-appropriate information about HIV/AIDS, helping them understand the basics of the disease, how it can be prevented, and the importance of compassion and non-discrimination toward people living with HIV.
This combined approach of providing nutritional support, health education, and recreational activities not only met the immediate needs of the children but also contributed to their long-term development, health awareness, and self-esteem.
